Vaginismus is an involuntary tightening or contraction of the muscles surrounding the vagina. The vagina is part of the female reproductive system. Connect the lower part of the uterus to the outside of the body. These unwanted muscle spasms occur when the penis, fingers, tampons, or medical devices try to invade the vagina. Seizures can be mildly uncomfortable and very painful.
